Gimme A Break Records have proudly announced their first release of 2024, teaming up with London-based producer An Avrin to deliver his “Spelunkerer” EP, a collection of mind-boggling leftfield-club productions accompanied by an equally spectacular remix from Leeds-based Stolen Velour. With previous releases on Scuffed Recordings, Slippery Sounds and Erbium Records, An Avrin has developed an unmistakably unique production style characterised by clean sampling, intricate detail, heavy bass and contorting rhythms. Alongside his highly-acclaimed label releases, An Avrin has also garnered substantial attention from the underground club scene through his self-releases and edits, with his flip of Darude’s “Sandstorm” dominating the summer DJ circuit in 2023.

An Avrin once again showcases his inventive production on GABD014. “Cobbert Webb” kickstarts the EP with a monstrous collision of rolling breakbeats and growling basslines, interspersed with Baile-influenced rhythms which only add to the track’s dramatic tension. An Avrin firmly puts his stamp on the modern Electro sound via the EP’s title-track, swiftly followed by the eclectic “Bup” which fuses Techno and Electro drum programming with Grime vocal samples. Following a deceptively innocent introduction, “Conduit” descends into a raucous leftfield take on the Breakbeat / UKG crossover style that has dominated the UK’s underground club scene in recent times. Stolen Velour closes out GABD014 with a spectacular remix of the EP’s title-track. In line with An Avrin’s own disregard for genre boundaries, the Leeds-based producer fuses UK Funky rhythms with Grime bass patches to perfectly complement the diverse sonic palette demonstrated across the EP.
